Died on 19 July 2012, Mohammad-Hassan Ganji is considered as the father of modern geography in Iran. Born in Birjand 1911, he received his PhD in Geography in 1952 from Clark University. Until his retirement in 1975, Ganji served as professor of geography at the University of Tehran for 37 years.
