Awaiting the Dawn

This article is in memory of Simin Daneshvar, the first Iranian female fiction writer who in her long life wrote with love to her homeland and its people. She was a responsible and prominent writer who paid attention to the social as well as the aesthetic aspects of writing. Her best work is SavuShun (Suvashun, 1969), a highly acclaimed novel about modern Iran. She waited for the “dawn” (sahar) all her life and never stopped looking for it, but as we see in her works, dawn never came.
